Meridian 59 New Game Client Software
NOW AVAILABLE!

Near Death Studios is very proud to announce the release of its new game client software. This new game client is packed with features to extend the user control while still maintaining a wide range of compatibility for players with older systems. The game client is a FREE download for all Meridian 59 subscribers.

The most obvious feature is the new Direct3D engine which greatly improves the look of all of the game's existing artwork and levels. However this change doesn't abandon fans with older machines as one can easily configure the game to use the classic 3D engine if the Direct3D demands are too great.

Some of the major changes to the game client include:
  • Full 3D graphics engine featuring a high resolution display, texture filtering, dynamic colored lighting, and many new special effects
  • Rebindable keys through a new easy to use graphical Configuration
  • Adjustable mouselook with optional y-axis invert
  • Bugs causing lag in player movement (commonly referred to as “lag drift”, or “map lag”) have been almost completely eliminated
  • Hotkeys are now saved per-character, instead of per-install
  • Inventory window has been reformatted to show more items when in large graphics mode
  • Personal Enchantment area has been reformatted to display a much larger number of enchantments
  • Full 8-way directional movement (e.g. the ability to move diagonally)
  • Option to “always run”
  • Ability to run while strafing
  • Ability to target players/monsters with the mouse without automatically attacking them
  • Ability to target yourself (and remain targeted) with a key
  • 3D view no longer “sinks” into the ground when running up a steep ramp
  • Sound effect volume has been drastically lowered
  • Automatic inactivity logoff timer has been increased slightly
  • and MORE!

Before and After Screenshots:
Click the thumbnails below to see some before and after screenshots comparing how the world looks in the new Direct3D engine compared to the classic engine. Remember the classic client is still available for those who do not meet the system requirements for the new Direct3D engine. Some screenshots may differ slightly from how the world looks now as some were taken as the Direct3D engine was evolving.
